ELIZABETH WHITE
Elizabeth Coleman White
was the eldest daughter of Joseph J. White, born in 1871. She is known as the Blueberry Queen for her
work in domesticating the wild highbush blueberry for commercial production
with Dr. Frederick Coville, thus making Whitesbog the birthplace of the
blueberry industry. She also started the
Tru-Blu-Berry Cooperative Association with Dr. Coville’s son, Stanley; was the
first to market fresh fruit under a clear cellophane cover; and was the first
woman on the board of the American Cranberry Growers’ Association, the first
and oldest cranberry growers’ association.
